How to make your school schedule

  1. Paint the week. Monday and Tuesday start with a few example lessons so you can see how it works: pick a subject, then tap every slot it happens in. Every subject is fully editable: the little pencil opens its name, icon and color in one place. Lunch is a subject too, and a subject running across two periods in a row prints as one taller block.
  2. Set the times. Every row is one time slot with a start and end time, like 8:00-8:50, prefilled from a typical US bell schedule with a lunch slot in the middle. Edit them to match your school day, and switch between AM/PM and 24-hour times with one tap.
  3. Print it. Add your child's name, pick landscape or portrait, and download the PDF. You can also email it to yourself or copy a link to share it with the other parent.

School subjects and how to color-code them

Color coding is the whole point of a printed schedule. A child checking tomorrow doesn't read the words first. They look for the color. The builder starts with the subjects almost every schedule needs:

Three rules of thumb that make the colors work: give the daily core lessons the calmest tones, because they're the ones your child reads past every morning. Give subjects that are easy to mix up, like reading and writing, tones that are clearly different at a glance. And paint lunch in, rather than leaving a hole in the middle of the day: a printed schedule with lunch marked is much easier for a younger child to navigate by.

You're not stuck with any of this. Every subject can be renamed, given a new icon, and recolored from a palette of 24, and you can add your own subjects too. Recoloring or renaming a subject updates every slot it already sits in.

Three tips to make the schedule actually get used

  • Hang it where the backpack lives. Not the bedroom. A schedule earns its keep at the moment the backpack gets packed, so it belongs by the front door or wherever the backpack lands.
  • Pack using tomorrow's column. This is the one habit that turns a printed grid into fewer frantic mornings. Gym clothes, library book, instrument: all of it is visible the night before.
  • Reprint after the first week. Class schedules often shift in the first weeks of school, and a schedule with a wrong slot on it stops being trusted very fast. Editing and reprinting takes a minute.

Frequently asked questions

Can I add my own subjects?
Yes. The builder starts with 15 common subjects, and the little pencil on each one opens its editor: rename it, swap the icon, or pick one of 24 colors spread right across the spectrum. A color another subject already uses is locked, so two subjects can never end up the same color. You can add your own subjects too, and renaming or recoloring one instantly updates every slot it's already painted into.
Does the school schedule print on one page?
Yes, always one page. You choose the layout: landscape is the default, because it gives five or six day columns the most room, and portrait suits a fridge door or a school binder. Up to 12 periods still fit either way, and the rows shrink automatically as you add more.
How many periods should I put on it?
Match the real school day and no more. Most elementary schedules land at six to eight rows once you include recess and lunch. Printing the gaps is worth it: a younger child follows a schedule with breaks drawn in far more easily than a solid wall of lessons.
Can I change the times, or add Saturday?
Both. Every row is a start and end time you can edit freely, so the schedule matches your school's real bell times instead of a generic grid, and you can switch the whole schedule between AM/PM and 24-hour times with one tap. There is also a switch for a sixth Saturday column, for the countries and schools that have Saturday classes, and one for a blank school-year line to fill in by hand.
Is this for elementary school or high school?
Either. Younger kids get the most out of it because every subject carries an icon they can read before they can read the word. Older kids tend to need more rows for a longer day, and the schedule fits up to 12 time slots on one page.
How do I reuse the schedule next semester?
Your schedule is saved in this browser, so coming back to this page brings it up ready to edit. You can also copy a share link and keep that, which restores the exact schedule anywhere, including on a partner's phone. When the schedule changes, edit and reprint.
What about the routine around the schedule?
The schedule says what happens at school. The harder half is the twenty minutes before it, which is a routine problem rather than a timetable problem.
